About Service

The game industry is a fast-growing one as many people are in constant search of fun things to keep them occupied. However, it is crucial for users to play video-games in their native language for a better experience.

This is why video game localization and translation services are important. It helps to preserve the original message of the product ensuring the users can relate to the cultural references and idiomatic expressions used.

Translation and localization in video games are vital if you plan on taking your product to a different country. A video game localization company works on your product while making accommodations for differing laws, legal stipulations, and cultural differences.

Steps for video game translation

01

First Step

You send the text strings, a glossary, and screenshots of your product. The text strings can be in Excel or XML format, or they could be a customised resource file format. You may choose to include a glossary that contains  the names of characters and items in your product.

03

Third Step

Spoken dialog is then translated into written text on the screen. This subtitling is referred to as an audio visual translation and has its own guiding rules. It helps those with hearing impairments to be able to understand the workings of the product.

05

Fifth Step

After the testing has been concluded and there are no changes to be made, the final product is then handed over to the client. Although many times, the developer may go ahead to run some other tests with their own team. Any feedback gotten from the testers, that requires a change, modification, or improvement is implemented by the developer.

02

Second Step

The game translation will then begin by our team. There are multiple translation methods available. Some of them are community, and in-house translation. Also, some costumes and objects in the product have to be changed or adjusted to be in tandem with the new language. The duration and deadline of this process will be discussed with the client.

04

Fourth Step

Quality assurance usually focuses on checking the quality of translation and reviewing linguistics. When the agency has completed its work on the product, it is then tested to ascertain its functionality. This covers Q/A, internationalisation, user interface & user experience design, culturalization testing and compliance testing. Natives of the language use the product and give their feedback on their experience.

Localization in video games refers to the process of adapting a game for different regions or languages, beyond mere translation. This includes culturalization to ensure content is appropriate and relatable for each target audience, adapting units of measurement, currencies, and graphical elements to local norms, as well as adjusting voice-overs, text, and sometimes gameplay mechanics to better suit local tastes and sensitivities. The goal is to provide players around the world with an experience that feels as if the game was originally made for their own locale.

Name of the game:

LiS: Before the Storm

The Tolma4 Team created an unofficial Russian localisation for our game Before the Storm. We worked with them to help ease the implementation of this localisation as a mod and also promoted it across our brand channels, but they handled all technical issues and localisation work. The team’s professionalism throughout the entire process was fantastic and they worked quickly to provide a high quality localisation that appeared to be very well received by our Russian speaking fan community. We did not test or verify the contents of the modification created by the Tolma4 Team and therefore are unable to endorse it officially, but there is no question that their diligent work helped open up our game to Russian speaking fans.

Writing a testimonial for Tolma4 Team is actually rather easy. Don’t think about any other localization partner for the Russian market, just go with the wonderful Tolma4 Team – no questions about this decision. Mi’pu’mi Games collaborated on The Lion’s Song with T4T and our little episodic pixel art game got a stellar treatment for each episode. Tolma4 Team did a great job in regards to communication, on time delivery, iterative workflows, testing and giving us confident in our newly formed partnership from the very beginning. Thank you! And of course we highly recommend Tolma4 Team!

Late Shift

It’s been a pleasure to work with the Tolma4 Team on the FMV game, Late Shift. They were professional and went above and beyond what was offered, even including a service for a number of YouTubers to play the game once the translations were complete. The translations were double checked in the game also, which is a very nice touch. The team were friendly and we would highly recommend them to any other developers or publishers looking for a quick and efficient turnaround of Russian localisation.
