2022 brought us a lot of good games. Many of them were sequels to our favorite series, and some were new and exciting games that we couldn’t get enough of. So, although we loved most of the games released this year, it’s time to list the best video games of 2022.

With the recent release of some memorable video games, Tolma4 Team thought it was time to give you the top 10 of the year. We researched and compiled a list of the most promising games and added our thoughts on each. Here are the best new games of 2022.

Elden Ring

Elden ring is a role-playing action game released in early 2022. It was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is set in a new universe created by George R.R. Martin and released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

To set the stage, all you know from the outset is that you play as a “Tarnished” of no renown, blessed by grace, and are compelled to make the journey to The Lands Between and become an Elden Lord. This journey will take you through many lands and meet many interesting characters.

God of War: Ragnarok

God of War: Ragnarok is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is the sequel to the 2018 game God of War and the eighth installment in the God of War series. God of War: Ragnarok continues the story of Kratos, the Spartan warrior living in ancient Norway.

Players will control Kratos, the main character, as he embarks on a new journey in Norse mythology. The game features a more open-world structure and new gameplay mechanics and features. It also includes new characters and gods from Norse mythology.

Stray

Immortality

Immortality is an interactive game created by Sam Barlow and released through Half mermaid productions. It was released on Windows and X box series in August 2022 and followed up the release on Netflix.

The plot is very intriguing as it follows an actress named Marrisa Marcel, who starred in three movies from 1968, 1970, and 1999 which were never released. After that, Marissa goes missing, leaving the mystery for the player to solve. Immortality is for you if you are a mystery and adventure games fan.

What makes this game stand out is the story behind it. You will not be expecting “The one” and “The other one”, who are immortal beings living through the bodies of humans. Your goal as a player is to solve the mystery and avoid being a host to these immortal characters.

The Quarry

Do you like horror? The Quarry is an interactive horror game created by Supermassive games and published by 2K. The plot follows the players controlling the character of nine teenage counselors who have to survive their last night at a summer camp among supernatural creatures and other violent characters. The Quarry was released in June 2022 and is available for Windows, Playstation 4 and 5, and the Xbox series.

The Quarry has been praised for its sharp graphics, horrifying storyline, and character performance. The average running time is 10 hours, and you will enjoy it.

Total War: Warhammer III

Total War: Warhammer III is a turn-based strategy game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. It is the third and final game in the Total War: Warhammer series. It is set in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles universe.

It features four playable factions: the Chaos Warriors, the Skaven, the High Elves, and the Lizardmen. In addition, the game has a campaign mode that allows players to conquer and defend territory, recruit and train armies, and engage in epic real-time battles.

High on life

If you want to play a game while enjoying comedic undertones, High on Life is one you’ll enjoy. It is a comedic first-person shooter game with action-adventure and Metroidvania elements. High on life was created by Justin Roiland and developed and published by Squanch Games on December 13, for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

In the game, player attack their targets using living alien weapons–five guns called Gatlians and one sentient knife. Each gun has a primary, an alternate and a special “trick hole” firing mode that can be used in combat. The knife also has an additional grapple ability that allows players to use ziplines to move around the world.

Honorary mention: The Last of Us Part 1

The Last of Us is a critically acclaimed action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and released in September 2022 by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is a follow-up to the original game previously released in 2013. The Last of Us Part 1 follows the original story set in a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity has been devastated by a fungal infection that has turned much of the population into mindless monsters. It follows the story of Joel, a smuggler, and Ellie, a teenage girl, as they travel to find a cure for the infection. This remake strongly focuses on story and character development, revised immersive gameplay, detailed environments, and emotional depth.
